recently joined the Faery Workout on Schoolism (an online learning plattform) where Iris Compiet (a faboulous artist) provides sketches of her creatures for us to color (with watercolor or whatever medium we like).
This friendly gnome is the first workout and even though I often paint in watercolors, I felt like a total beginner. Nevertheless, I am glad I worked through the ugly stage and added some details with colored pencil in the end.

Watercolor is, if you work in layers, a slow medium that needs a lot of patience. If a layer is not really dry and you go in with more color and water it gets really messy because you loose the little control you have with watercolor.
Watercolor paintings also usually go through an ugly phase. When you apply the first colors and the result on paper just looks like a big mess (see the first few seconds in the video), it's hard to imagine what it can become in the end.
